The American Society for Nondestructive Testing

John is an ASNT Level III RT, UT, and PT, NAS 410 Level III RT, UT, PT, VT and MT NDT engineer.  The AATA was founded when John decided to dedicate himself full-time to helping economically disadvantage and veterans struggling with poor job prospects secure fulfilling careers in his field. Stewart, who over the course of his twenty-year career in NDT has trained technicians for companies such as SpaceX, Goodrich Aerospace and Northrop Grumman, believed that by addressing inadequate STEM opportunities, one could empower youth and returning military veterans to fill the shortage of NDT professionals in many of California’s booming industries. John is a United States Navy Veteran and served as a Navy "Seabee" attached to Amphibious Construction Battalion 2.

The reliability of check valves is paramount to the safe operations of plant systems. The presentation will provide a description of the benefits gained when applying advance phased array ultrasonic inspection techniques to establish the operational readiness of swing check valves in the static or dynamic operational mode as well as a utility’s model perspective on how the Phased Array Sectorial Scanning (P.A.S.S.) data assessments can be utilized to support operational predictive maintenance decisions. 

The South Texas Section held its January meeting at the facilities of Sonatest International on January 31, 2018.  Twelve people were in attendance.  The presentation and lab tour was presented by Jeremiah Rawls who is the  Regional Sales Manager.  Jeremiah has been as Sonatest for 17 years starting in the business as a transducer technician.  Sonatest provides NDT ultrasonic solutions and has  been an NDT equipment manufacturer for the past 60 years producing and delivering  quality, rugged and portable products.  Specializing in conventional and phased array ultrasonic NDT technologies, Sonatest provides solutions to a number of industries including transportation, oil and gas, aerospace, power generation and civil engineering internationally.  

Everyone enjoyed seeing the inside story on manufacturing ultrasonic transducers.

November Meeting at Royal Inn

A tour of our manufacturing facility, highlighting what we do to manufacture (from scratch) a variety of NDE/NDT products including high speed EMI pipe inspection systems.  On display will be a fully automated mill class EMI system capable of handling pipe as long as 45 ft. in length, pipe weight up to 4200 lbs. at an inspection rate of 30 ips.
