Rolls Royce Heritage Centre, 20th November 2018

We held a section meeting at the Rolls Royce Heritage Centre in Derby on 20th November 2018.

This comprised a tour of the Museum which had examples of engines dating from the early 1900's through to the modern Trent Jet Turbines.  This was followed by a presentation from Rolls Royce Apprentice Doug O'Hare who talked through a project he completed using Phased Array Techniques to inspect for corrosion for in-service on wing inspection of fuel and oil pipes.

We had a very good turn out of 19 members at the meeting and discussed the current state of the section, future events and the new ASNT MemberSHIP campaign.  Everyone was encouraged to participate in future activities we asked for any feedback to help us improve future meetings and plan events.

The Museum had many engines through the history of Rolls Royce.  It was interesting to see the progression and inovation which took place over such a short space of time.

Seeing the internal workings of these engines gives an appreciation of the complex technologies at work.
