Membership
1.0 Purpose
To specify membership eligibility, membership categories, dues pricing, and terms.

4.0 Responsibility
The Board of Directors shall be responsible for determining membership eligibility, categories, dues, and terms.
5.0 Eligibility
5.1 Membership shall be available to persons aged 18 years or older who are interested in or engaged in nondestructive testing.
5.2 Individuals residing in or organizations located in the countries of Iran, Cuba, and North Korea may not be eligible for membership under United States law.
6.0 Membership Categories
The membership categories of the Society shall be Student Member, New NDT Professional Member, NDT Professional Member, Active Military Member, Retired Member, and Lifetime Member.
7.0 Admission Criteria
7.1 Student Membership shall be available to individuals enrolled full time in a college or university degree program. Applicants are subject to eligibility verification.
7.2 New NDT Professional Membership shall be available to individuals who have worked in the NDT industry for five (5) years or less.
7.3 NDT Professional Membership shall be available to individuals working in any capacity in the NDT industry.
7.4 Active Military Membership shall be available to individuals who are active-duty members of a military service.
7.5 Retired Membership shall be available to existing members with at least fifteen (15) years of membership, who are aged sixty (60) years or older and are fully retired from the NDT industry.
7.6 Lifetime Membership shall be available to existing members whose combined years of membership and age are equal to or greater than sixty-five (65) years.
8.0 Dues
8.1 Dues shall be paid annually in the amounts specified below for each category:

8.2 Group discounts shall be available to organizations who purchase their employees’ memberships in bundles. Group memberships purchased by the organization shall be owned by the organization. Therefore, group memberships may be transferred to other employees at the organization’s discretion upon thirty (30) day prior notice to ASNT.
Individuals shall be assigned to the NDT Professional Membership categories. Individual membership rights and privileges shall be exercised by the individual while the group membership is assigned to them.
The staff shall be authorized to negotiate discounts for groups larger than 20 employees.

8.3 Discounts shall be available to NDT Professional Members who join or renew for up to five (5) years purchased in a single transaction as shown below.

8.4 Staff shall periodically review membership dues amounts and, when appropriate, make recommendations for dues changes to the Board of Directors. Factors to consider include market data from comparable associations and the costs to service a member. 8.5 Staff shall notify members of membership dues price changes in a timely manner.
8.6 Membership dues shall be non-refundable and, except for Group Memberships, shall be non-transferable.
9.0 Complimentary Membership
9.1 Complimentary Lifetime membership shall be provided to ASNT Past Presidents.
9.2 Complimentary Lifetime membership shall be provided for life to Philip D. Johnson Honorary Members Award recipients in accordance with Policy G-41 ASNT Awards Program Guidelines, Appendix S.
9.3 Complimentary Student membership shall be provided for one year to ASNT Engineering Undergraduate Scholarship recipients who are not members at the time of award in accordance with Policy G-41 ASNT Awards Program Guidelines, Appendix A.
9.4 Complimentary membership shall be provided for one year to ASNT Faculty Grant recipients who are not members at the time of award in accordance with Policy G-41 ASNT Awards Program Guidelines, Appendix B.
9.5 Complimentary membership shall be provided for one year to Fellowship Grant Award recipients who are not members at the time of award in accordance with Policy G-41 ASNT Awards Program Guidelines, Appendix C.
9.6 Complimentary membership shall be provided for one year to ASNT Robert B. Oliver Scholarship recipients who are not members at the time of award in accordance with Policy G-41 ASNT Awards Program Guidelines, Appendix D.
9.7 Complimentary Student membership shall be provided for one year to ASNT Student Travel Grant Program recipients who are not members at the time of award in accordance with Policy G-41 ASNT Awards Program Guidelines, Appendix E.
9.8 Complimentary NDT Professional membership shall be provided to representatives from collaborating nonprofit societies in accordance with the terms of Memoranda of Understanding (MOU). Individuals shall have all the rights and privileges of membership.
9.9 Staff shall have the authority to waive a member’s dues renewal for up to twelve (12) months at their discretion to grant hardship or resolve member service complaints.
9.10 Trial memberships may be provided to first-time members as part of membership recruitment activities. Trial members shall not be considered regular members; they shall receive limited member benefits for no more than four (4) months and have no member voting rights.
10.0 Membership Terms
10.1 Membership shall be for a duration of one (1) year, except when multiple years of NDT Professional Membership or Lifetime Membership are purchased.
10.2 For new members, membership shall begin on the new member’s join date and expire on the last day of the twelfth (12th) month following the join date. For example, if a new member joins on March 21, 2020, their membership shall expire on March 31, 2021. The member’s original join date remains unchanged throughout the duration of their membership even when there are breaks in membership.
10.3 For members who renew on or before their expiration date, their expiration date shall be extended for twelve (12) months. For example, if a member renews on or before their expiration date of September 30, 2020, their membership shall be extended to September 30, 2021. For members who renew for multiple years, their expiration date shall be extended for the same number of years, respectively.
10.4 For members who fail to renew their membership on or before their expiration date, their membership shall be terminated on the first day of the following month.
10.5 For members who renew their membership after termination, their expiration date shall become the last day of the twelfth (12th) month following the renewal date. For example, if an individual’s membership was terminated on August 1, 2020 and they renew on September 10, 2020, the membership shall expire on September 30, 2021.
10.6 The Board of Directors may terminate the membership of any member of the Society for any reason, and the termination may be permanent, temporary or conditional on terms specified by the Board of Directors.
10.7 Terminated members shall have no membership rights or privileges, including but not limited to holding elected office or voting in member elections.
